About Us

Access Keyboards designs, manufactures and distributes equipment that enables fast and accurate input of information into electronic systems, and is the UK's largest independent computer keyboard manufacturer. Our products include custom and standard electronic keyboards, keypads, bar code readers, magnetic swipe card readers and smartcard readers. The company also provides text displays for point-of-sale terminals.

Over three-quarters of the products sold are created to meet the requirements of a specific application, so we are used to working closely with our customers to understand their challenges and to come up with reliable solutions that provide effective functionality at the lowest cost-of-ownership.

The many designs that exist provide a wide range of platforms on which to base new custom or semi-custom designs. They are all designed to streamline information processing and save both time and cost. Access Keyboards’ customers are found throughout the world. Our main markets are retail point-of-sale, airports (check-in systems and boarding gate readers), retail banking, dealing rooms in financial institutions, industrial equipment and telecommunications/server room control.

We design and manufacture in the UK with hardware and software engineering employing one third of our staff. Through the experience of our engineering teams, the company has extensive experience in meeting international standards for equipment interfaces and operating systems.

Brief History

Incorporated in December 1984, Access Keyboards was created as a rapid response custom keyboard manufacturer serving UK based customers.

Throughout our history, we have made substantial investments in design, development and manufacturing resources and have remained committed to quality and innovation. As a result, our revenues and client base have increased steadily, now covering five continents.

In December 1992 the company obtained ISO9001 accreditation and obtained ISO9001:2000 accreditation in 2002.

In 1997 Access gained accreditation as an Investor in People employer in recognition of our commitment to the development and motivation of our staff.

In March 2007 Access formed a subsidiary, Access (North America) inc, to provide sales and technical support to customers in North and South America.
