General Description:

Each key position can be programmed to have a single character or string of characters including caps lock, num lock, scroll lock, shift, control and alt conditions. A local shift (or layer 2) function can be enabled on one of the keys. The shift can be toggle or momentary allowing dual functionality of each of the remaining keys. The three optional LED indicators can be set to represent caps lock, num lock, scroll lock, local shift (or layer 2) or power on. The repeat rate for the keypad is also programmable. This technology may be used as shown to provide an off-the-shelf programmable keypad or configured in manufacture to provide a cost-effective custom product with special key layout, colours and legends.

The keypad is programmed by software provided. Optionally, a PC keyboard, attached to the wedge port on the keypad, can control the software. Layouts may be stored on disk to be retrieved later. The software can be used to auto-download new layouts if required when changing applications. Layouts and key programming can be globally downloaded to keypads across a PC-based network. Once the keypad is programmed there is no need to use the software again unless a new layout is required.
