This offers lower volume buyers the option of purchasing fully enclosed key-boards whilst only paying for the part of the tooling specific to their needs - a fraction of the cost of conventional tooling. |
Tooling Capabilities

By careful planning at the tooling design stage, Access Keyboards have produced a top and
base tool with built-in permutation options. Tool inserts for varying enclosure lengths and designs can be interchanged within the same bolster. The core side of the tool, and its ejection system are manufactured in strips which can be removed to shorten its length. The cavity side of the tool whose impression gives the component’s exterior finish is manufactured in one or two pieces. ensuring that the exterior part is free unsightly witness marks often found on components moulded from reconfigurable tools. The cavity plate inserts are tooled to produce a new enclosure together with a few inexpensive blocks on the core side. All components are made of fully hardened tool steel. |

| The cavity side of the mould tool is usually split between the QWERTY area and the function key areas above. This is disguised as a subtle styling line. Manufacturing the cavity plates in two pieces helps cut tooling costs when, for example a customer only wants to change a standard layout by adding an extra row of function keys. Window areas to accommodate LCD on plasma displays can also be added. | |
